The Old Geezer
Please Excuse My Absence

I have not blogged since July of 2015 due to the fact that my Lovely Wife was diagnosed with 2 types of cancer. A new case of breast cancer which has metastasized and gone to her bones, mainly her back. She had a mastectomy of her left breast which showed the type of cancer that was in her bones. She has been taking an oral med. every day and she has a port under her skin to receive a liquid med. She has gone through one round of radiation treatments to stop some pain in her back. That gave her GERD and the med for that was nasty tasting. The bone cancer has caused the vertebra in her lower back to pinch her left sciatic nerve causing her pain, numbness and foot drag. She also has skin cancer that has only been partly addressed.

I have been busy taking care of her as the treatments have left her weak and sickly. She can not drive so I have to drive her to her appointments and treatments. I also have to do all the cooking and most of what cleaning we do. So I do not have a lot of time for blogging. However the installment of the review of the Schaeffer Ultrafine 0.3mm pencil marks what I hope will be a new review every month. However some of my future reviews may seem familiar as they may be a review of a pencil or pen that I have reviewed before just in another size due to my limited collection of writing instruments and the economic state of our nation.

I am grateful to George Fox for wanting me to do a review of another one of his pencils. I think that as a reader of my humble blog, may fine of interest as the Schaeffer Ultra Fine is a very unusual pencil.

So please excuse my absence and as a reader of my humble blog I hope that you enjoy the review of this unique pencil.

Coming Soon...

Thank you,

The Old Geezer.

Ohto Super Promecha PM-1507S Giveaway!

Right on the heels of my very first giveaway on Pens And Pencils is my second giveaway! This time I'm giving away a new Ohto Super Promecha Pm-1507S 0.7 mm drafting pencil. It is new but it does have a few accidental dings. These happened when the pocket clip was accidentally twisted around the pencil body. While they detract from the beauty of the pencil they in no way affect the pencils function.
The S series Super Promechas feature the adjustment for the amount of lead to be dispensed with each press of the push button, the adjustment for setting the maximum amount of the lead sleeve to be exposed and the adjustment that hides/protects the lead sleeve and exposes the lead sleeve up to it's maximum set length.

The pocket clip is also removable and the pencil features one of the best lead grade indicators that I've ever seen on a drafting pencil.

The big knurled grip is nicely cut with a diamond pattern and functions very well as a grip, affording the user a large area of grip surface. The pencil is bottom heavy, which to me is a sign of a good writing pencil. It's all metal construction is of hard anodized aluminum, hard anodized brass, polished brass and polished stainless steel making it a heavy pencil which many people like. All in all a good design and a well made pencil.

If you would like to have a chance of winning this marvel of Japanese engineering then simply leave a comment on this post. It's that simple. Only if you leave a comment using the anonymous sign in then please indicate either your name or username of some sort in the body of the comment. Why? Because if your post is picked as the winner, how am I going to know it's really you or an impostor who sends me an email claiming to be the winner? All comments posted as anonymous with out some other identifier will be ignored come time to pick a winner.

So just post a comment to this post, telling me how wonderful I am, between now and midnight, EST, April 22nd to be eligible to win. At midnight on April 22nd I will count up the number of eligible comments and using the True Random Integer Generator at the bottom of this blog I will generate the winning number. I will then correlate the winning number along with the comments and match them up. I will then post the winner on this blog. The winner will have 7 days to email me with their mailing addy in order to claim their prize.

For all you die hard Ohto fans, this is a no- brainer...

If after a week the winner has not claimed the prize then they lose out. The count will be reduced by one, the first winners comment will be ignored and a new random number will be generated and a new winner chosen.

So please leave a comment to add your name to the list of possible winners. Be sure to check back sometime after midnight on the 22nd. If you are the winner then you'll have 7 days to send me an email at theoldgeezer@live.com containing a mailing addy.

Thank you for visiting my blog.

Wow nice giveaway, I'm not going to try for this one as I just got one of these in 0.3 couple of weeks ago, very nice pencil (though mine already has quite a few cosmetic imperfections through heavy use)

btw remember me? I was the guy who was asking about the rOtring 600, staedtler 925 95 and this pencil in 0.3 a while ago. (sl.124@live.com)

Really enjoy your blog. Tried to like the Zebra ballpoint but I'm too fond of gel pens. Maybe because I'm a lefty?

In any case, random number please land on me 8-)

PS. Still wish your blog would start at the top and you'd put a link to your commentary/static stuff. IMHO 8-)

Alright boys and girls the contest is officially closed!

I will now count the comments... 23 total, however one commenter has declined the entry so that makes 22 entries in all. So I will use the Random Integer Generator at the bottom of my blog to generate a random number between 1 and 22 inclusive. That number will correspond to a single comment. The comments are numbered from the first to the last, the first being number 1, the last being number 22, with one comment skipped. So here goes... And the number is 12! The 12th comment belongs to... Alan Claver, who wants me to make changes to my blog!

Congratulations, Alan, you are the winner of the 0.7 mm Ohto Super Promecha PM-1507P! You have 7 days from now to send me your mailing addy or another winner will be chosen! So get on the stick, Alan, and send me that mailing addy! theoldgeezer@hotmail.com

The Old Geezer said...

Oops! I goofed! I listed my email incorrectly! Man, how could I have done something that stupid!? For that reason I'm extending the deadline for Alan to contact me until midnight of the fourth of May. My apologies, everyone, epically Alan. My email should have read: theoldgeezer@live.com! So Alan, if you still read my blog, email me with a mailing addy, please!

The Old Geezer said...

Well, it's now 2:50 AM Tuesday Morning and I've given Alan plenty of time to send me an email claiming his prize! I will now generate a new random integer between 1 an 21, the remaining number of eligible contestants. Alan's post will be ignored. So here goes... The new number is 6 and the number 6 corresponds to the comment by Kossy! So, Kossy, you have one week to notify me by email with a mailing address. And Yes, I will mail it to Japan or anywhere else in the world. It just might take longer to get there.

It shifted from the winning and it gave it up.

It is very lucky in the fresh draw!

Thank you.

How to Choose a Graphics Tablet that Fits Your Needs

The first time I tried a Wacom tablet is only comparable with the day I discovered Photoshop, bought my first laptop, tested an Apple computer or I met my girlfriend for the first time - geek joke, honey. But, why are Wacom tablets so special? In this post we'll review the advantages of these tablets.

Choosing the Correct Drawing Tips

In my opinion, it must be a Wacom tablet.

The most relevant technical specification is pressure sensitivity. The more, the better.

Smaller tablets are better, cheaper, easier to fit into your desktop, and they work just like the bigger ones. I would only choose the big model if you're going to use it for CAD.

Think about the use you'll give to your tablet. If you want if for painting, coloring and photo manipulation, it will be 100% useful. For drawing, only Cintiq models are really good, and for designing, you need no more than a mouse.

There are second hand markets or brand new old models. They are really worth checking.
